Challenge

When Orbit Telehealth partnered with Sancrisoft, they faced a critical challenge: their production telehealth platform was actively serving customers, but the inherited codebase couldn't support the technical and compliance demands of their growth trajectory. New enterprise healthcare clients required SSO integrations, eligibility file processing, and white-label instances that the existing architecture wasn't designed to handle.

The codebase had passed through multiple development teams, each leaving their own patterns and technical debt. Orbit needed a partner who could not only maintain the platform but truly understand it, someone capable of making confident improvements without breaking what was already working.

Simultaneously, evolving healthcare security expectations demanded stronger authentication, infrastructure hardening, and a clear path toward HIPAA compliance. The platform also needed core infrastructure modernization and robust data integration capabilities to export utilization and clinical insights into client data lakes and reporting systems. Orbit needed a technology partner capable of modernizing and stabilizing this complex codebase without disrupting active users, while simultaneously unlocking the scalability required to compete for larger healthcare contracts.

Solution

Sancrisoft deployed a dedicated nearshore development team to execute a phased modernization strategy that prioritized stability and risk mitigation. We invested significant time in understanding the inherited codebase, documenting its patterns, and building the institutional knowledge needed to make confident changes. This deep familiarity now enables us to deliver continuous improvements without disrupting active customers.

On the security front, we implemented Multi-Factor Authentication for administrative and provider roles, supported penetration testing efforts, and continue remediation work as part of the ongoing path toward full HIPAA compliance. We also deployed AWS WAF for perimeter security and enhanced session management across the platform.

Key infrastructure modernizations include:

  • Video consultation infrastructure upgrade with cloud recording and transcription capabilities
  • Email delivery system migration for improved reliability and deliverability
  • Cloud infrastructure optimization, reducing operational costs
  • Performance improvements including database optimization and memory management enhancements

Beyond stabilization and security, we architected a scalable white-label multi-instance framework allowing Orbit to deploy customized telehealth instances for each healthcare client with unique branding, SSO integrations, and eligibility file processing. We also built automated SFTP data pipelines connecting utilization and clinical insights directly to client data lakes and BI systems.

Results

Orbit Telehealth maintained complete platform stability while introducing critical infrastructure upgrades, security enhancements, and new features on the inherited codebase. The team's deep understanding of the codebase enables rapid response to issues and confident feature development.

Security improvements, including MFA, penetration testing remediation, and infrastructure hardening, have strengthened the platform's compliance posture, with ongoing work toward full HIPAA compliance. The white-label framework accelerated customer onboarding for new healthcare organizations, while infrastructure optimizations reduced AWS operational costs.

The ongoing partnership continues to drive innovation, with Sancrisoft serving as Orbit's dedicated nearshore development team for 18+ months and counting.

It’s been a pleasure and we’ll continue to create great things together.
